GREEN TIPS
SAVE HANDMADE AND SECOND-HAND ITEMS
Because of all the toxic toys that are being imported by big
companies, a new law (set to go in effect February 10th) will
require prohibitively expensive testing on ALL ITEMS sold for
children (ages 0 - 12), effectively putting small artists and
craftspeople out of business, AND make it illegal to sell any
non-tested currently existing children's items second-hand

(WHAT????!!!). Make sure this doesn't happen by making your
voice heard before 2/10/2009. Our store carries some
AMAZING unpainted hand-crafted wood toys and rattles made by small American businesses that would disappear if we don't change this law. Learn more about how handmade items are affected at this website and about second-hand items at this one and write your senator and
congress person. You can also vote for this issue on President Elect Obama's change website.

SPEAKING OF PRESIDENT ELECT OBAMA...GET YOUR VOICE HEARD!
Did you know that there are a list of amazing, progressive ideas on the CHANGE.ORG website that you can vote for and the 10 ideas that get the most votes will be presented ? From setting up a Federal Office for Sustainability, to appointing a Secretary of Peace and Non-Violence, to forgiving all student loan debt (heck ya!) The 10 ideas that get the most votes will be presented to the new president. SO VOTE, and be heard! Voting ends January 15th!

FOR CALIFORNIANS: HELP FIGHT PLASTIC BAG POLLUTION
Heal the Bay is sponsoring new legislation this year with State
Assemblymember Julia Brownley to reduce plastic bag litter on
our beaches and oceans. Under AB 68 (the Single-Use Bag Reduction Act), large grocery stores and convenience stores would be required to charge a 25 cent fee for single-use bags, which would be used for local litter abatement programs. This fee-based approach has
reduced plastic bag consumption in Ireland by over 90%. For more information, visit this website.

BTW, we are now on YELP, GOOGLE MAPS, and FACEBOOK...

so please help us out by writing a review and/or becoming a "fan."

WHAT'S NEW?
VINTAGE CLOTHING
There's nothing greener than using that which has already been
produced. So we've started a rack of vintage clothing that our
super awesome friends at Stylefinders, Ali and Max, have hunted and gathered for us! Currently it's only women's clothing, but they are building up their men's inventory. Come in and check it out!

KEYS: WE'RE BRINGING IN THE FULL LINE
The reaction to the bath and body line KEYS has been very positive, so we're bringing the entire line in. We expect to get it next week sometime.

OTHER NEW ITEMS
Among the new items are medicinal herbal teas, pet food coasters made from old billboards, and homeopathic remedies. FYI that we'll be getting more crank flashlights and 27oz Klean Kanteens next week. Also, we'll be getting hemp shower curtains next week (finally found a source!) New items will be on-line shortly.
